Hi there! You can call me Hilary or Schip, whichever you prefer. The name SchipAlong actually starts in video gaming. I was staring at the TV screen, stuck on the startup while my friends waited for me to join them, and I just typed in the first thing to pop into my head. It stuck, and when I started the blog it seemed only natural to use the name here.
On the right is Suki. Half-pint shepherd, my constant shadow, and the inspiration for SchipAlong. It only takes one Schipperke to generate a passion for the breed.
While the blog started as a way to document switching Suki off kibble and on to fresh food, I’ve gradually branched out to more topics. First I posted about the odd hike we had done, then in 2014 we made the commitment to backyard chickens and I began documenting that journey. It’s had its ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade the little feathery monsters for anything. As I go along I’ll likely pick up a few more topics to talk about. At its heart SchipAlong is about food, sustainability, nature, adventure, and most of all learning.
We’re based on the Sunshine Coast in beautiful British Columbia, with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. While I love to explore new places, I’m not sure I could imagine calling anywhere else home.
