Sel finally started introducing the chicks to roosting instead of sleeping on the floor. Zeste was very much not happy with them.
Then she decided maybe she did want to join in caring for them after all. It’s a terrible picture, but it’s too funny not to include.
Now it’s just getting ridiculous though. They are 12 weeks old, they don’t need to be babied anymore! With the introduction of the large chickens the girls have regressed off the roost and back into the nesting box.
With the Barnevelder trapped in the smaller coop and unable to run away, I was finally able to get some decent photos of her.
Sometimes the imperfect expressions are my favourite.
The chicks have plucked a bald spot in poor Sel’s beard.
Speaking of beards, the chicks have beards now! Still sad, scraggly little beards. But beards.
It’s a piebald pigeon! Which actually aren’t that rare, but I thought I should try including something other than Suki and chickens. Did you know there are fancy pigeons bred for exhibition?
Suki with some canine graffiti we found along one of our walks. Suki wouldn’t cooperate for the picture, so this drawing might make a reappearance another week.
Suki also got a new puffy jacket to help her stay warm. I used the excuse that it would come in handy when we take trips to Alberta in winter, but if I’m being honest it’s really just that I think she looks adorable. It’s ended up being needed lately though, so I guess it was actually a useful purchase after all. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for snow.
